Brooklyn Teen Missing and Soca DJ Finds It Funny. #FindJennaAlexa

I must admit, to some folks I might be stuck up.

Why? Because I don’t find their sense of humor amusing at all. I thought Dave Chapelle’s Sticks and Stones was crude, crass and insensitive but real as f-ck and funny as hell! On the other hand, I find nothing amusing about Ian Alleyne and as insanely comical as What Yuh Know can be, I find it more disturbing than entertaining that so many people are illiterate.

The Truth Stands On Its Own And Never Dies.

There is a time and place for jokes. “Pulling yuh fren leg” because his wife finally left his wutless behind is most definitely allowed! Making fun of your friend because his wife verbally and physically beats him…not okay.

On Tuesday, December 17th, 2019, I was stunned when I saw the video, from the previous night, of the teenage girl being pulled from her mother and dragged into an awaiting vehicle. Kidnapped right in front of her mother! With rallying cries, I posted on all of my social networks. The next morning, on my way to work, I was praying harder for that child than my own. With tears in my eyes, I was praying Karol Sanchez be found alive. Sure enough, the 16-year old Bronx teen found her way to a police car, in the same vicinity she was “abducted” and turned herself in for the stunt she had orchestrated — just to get away from her “overly protective” mother and to avoid returning home to Honduras with her family.

Now, news of another black teenage girl is circulating.

This one closer to home. She resides near where I live in Brooklyn. She is a freshman at one of the top High Schools in New York City. With one degree of separation, I don’t know her mother personally but we know of each other by association and common connections. This could be my child…again.

Jenna Hospedales is 5-foot-8 and weighs 118 pounds and was last seen leaving school, headed into the Fulton Street G subway station to catch the train around 3 p.m., on Thursday, January 9th, 2020.

Within 15 hours the Bronx teen had resurfaced after her hoax.

It has since been three days and some hours and Jenna’s family has still not seen her, heard from her, found her. THIS IS NOT A HOAX.

But back to what people find funny…

A Brooklyn DJ decided he would be funny during a time of great concern…

I wasn’t amused.

In fact, I was really disgusted. Here is a DJ who has long been accused of having pedophilic and rapey ways, and just last year was pleading his case on an Instagram Live after a young woman accused him of holding her down on a hotel bed, during a “casting call” for body paint models for an upcoming party.

JENNA HOSPEDALES IS MISSING.

We are hoping Jenna is found alive but this is the counter-productivity from other BLACK and CARIBBEAN parents we have to deal with. Can you imagine Jenna’s state of mind or physical state right now? Is she aware? Is she scared? Is she conscious? Does she know where she is?

There are many DJs and Promoters who have rapey ways and have engaged in heinous sexual acts against women and children FOR YEARS! I always refer to Tony X as another Soca DJ who I can personally attest to being a sexual predator. It was back in 2006 or 2007, during NYC’s first Fresh Fete Fridays, that this man whom I was not friends with, never had any interaction with (actually disliked since back then), would proceed to put his hand under my dress towards my crotch, as I was passing by in a tightly packed party. He didn’t care that my male friends were nearby. Nope. He was that brazen. My friend I accompanied to the event was actually DJing at the time, so I didn’t want to make a scene. I told him when we got in the car and he was livid and blamed himself for not protecting me.

One in seven kids between the ages of 10 and 18 will run away at some point. And there are 1 million to 3 million runaway and homeless kids living on the streets in the United States.

I ran away a few times as a teen. Mostly to my aunt’s house, once just roaming San Juan in Trinidad but the last time I did so, I sought refuge at the home of the father I never had a relationship with. I thought since we had just started – or since I had initiated contact – that me seeking safety with him would bring us closer. On the contrary, my very famous legendary DJ father would attempt to sexually assault his own daughter and then lie about it.

Years later, he would have a baby mother younger than I, with a child older than mine.

There would be DJs who would later find out who my sperm donor was and boast about how they knew him as if to gain brownie points with me. When I would outright tell them he tried to rape me, MANY would say, “that is still yuh fadda – yuh have to forgive and forget.”

WE LIVE IN A VERY SICK SOCIETY.

Soca. Dancehall. Reggae. Rap…I don’t care. These f-cking monsters exist. They don’t chime in during difficult discussions because their guilt makes them uncomfortable. They don’t offer meaningful support because all they know is how to say dumb shit to get some laughs.

For the love of Christ, I don’t understand why party promoters even hire certain DJs who they know are shady characters that engage in suspicious behaviors against women and children. Many people in our community are purposely turning blind eyes to situations and people they know they should condemn because “daiz not my business.” In 2020, are we still going to hear DJs and mic men denigrate women by asking “Who have their own hair” “Who wearing dey own clothes?” “Who weigh less than 130lbs?” These are all shit said on a mic, during a party, by Tony X.

The Truth Stands On Its Own And Never Dies.

If we were to really legitimately expose the Caribbean men on this Brooklyn scene – from Politicians to Pastors, Band Leaders to Business Owners, DJs to Entertainers – who are walking monsters…would it even matter? I firmly believe it wouldn’t matter because you’d still support them. There are so many great DJs who are good guys and y’all don’t even support them or give them a bligh! But everything is just business and it’s all fun and games until someone you know gets hurt. It’s just a joke until it’s your child missing.

Caribbean People Really Enable and Empower Sexual Predators and Abusers. Caribbean People Really Promote Mental Toxicity Instead of Mental Health.

In this year of our Lord 2020, I am being very conscious and deliberate in where I spend MY TIME, MY MONEY AND MY ENERGY. Too many people pretending to be woke but in deep sleep.

The fact is… JENNA HOSPEDALES  IS STILL MISSING.

Other facts are – many of the fellas that you hang with prey on girls and women, rape girls and women, are reproductive abusers, sexual abusers, physical abusers, psychological abusers – F-CKING ABUSERS – and you endorse and support their behavior by hanging out with them, partying with them, paying them to play in your parties or following them on social media because YOU FIND THIS SHIT ENTERTAINING.

Ok fine… your friend may not be R.Kelly but he sure is giving Harvey Weinstein, Bill Cosby, and Trump a run for their money. But do you even care? Of course, you don’t. Have you ever really listened to the things they say? Trust me…liquor or not, people always tell on who they are! Most of these men just talking to talk but aren’t really saying anything at all!

I get it. I feel duped by the last teen. I too became a bit numb and desensitized but I had to fight those feelings of being nonchalant and aid in sounding an alarm.

TWO DIFFERENT TEENS – TWO DIFFERENT HOMES – TWO DIFFERENT STORIES!

According to a CNN article, “data shows that missing white children receive far more media coverage than missing black and brown children, despite higher rates of missing children among communities of color.”

The article continues with reasons why we don’t hear more about missing children of color and also included this stat from the FBI’s National Crime Information Center (NCIC) database which lists 424,066 missing children under 18 in 2018, the most recent year for which data is available. About 37 percent of those children are black, even though black children only make up about 14 percent of all children in the United States.

Jenna’s Trinidadian-American mom, Janelle, posted this on her Instagram account…

I still have yet to see this face. Another day has began without us knowing where you are or if you're safe. Every sound I hear... Let me tell you about my daughter... she's not the type to run away, but right now I'm hoping she became the type. She's not into boys but right now I'm hoping that she secretly started being into them and that's where she is. Her friends are 99% family so we only had a couple to look into but I'm hoping there's ones that we're just unaware of. She's not one of those kids that's into her phone and social media. In her texts messages and phone logs, nothing strange. We would welcome anything because at least that would mean a starting point, instead we are left directionless. I want this to be, I NEED this to be a moment of teen angst and rebellion so badly, the possibility of anything else breaks me...

I know we are a society that loves to party but if partying is life for you, then fam,…you are not truly living! I challenge you to be a better person by unlearning many of the toxic habits that you have since accepted as normal by accepting behaviors, conversations and even jokes that are toxic AF, and instead come to the understanding that the people you choose to surround yourself with, and intentionally support, are a reflection of your beliefs, your ideals and YOU!

So… who are you?

Someone out there knows something. Saw something. Please say something. Please send a message. Text a tip. SOUND THE ALARM!

I am scared and worried about Jenna. My heart truly aches as I write this. I sometimes wish I could shake up our community who always seem to take everything as a joke. THIS SHIT IS NOT F-CKING FUNNY!

There is a global village praying and waiting for your safe and healthy return Jenna. We can’t wait to see you smile, love-up on you and laugh with you.
