Amber Guyger has officially been charged with the murder of Botham Shem Jean!

The former Dallas police officer was indicted on a murder charge Friday (today) for killing the unarmed 26-year-old St. Lucian man in his Dallas apartment, according to county court records.

Amber Guyger, 30, was arrested on a manslaughter charge three days after the deadly shooting. The white female officer made national headlines when she claimed she had mistakenly belief that Shem was in her home. Her story never seemed to make sense.

According to CNN

Dallas County court records showed both a manslaughter and murder charge entered in her file, but the clerk confirmed that the murder charge is the one prosecutors are moving forward on.

The indictment of Amber Guyger comes more than two months after she was arrested in the shooting death of Botham Shem Jean at the Dallas apartment complex where both lived — a killing that sparked days of protests.

Guyger, who was arrested and fired from her job as a Dallas police officer after the September shooting, initially faced a charge of manslaughter. But Dallas County District Attorney Faith Johnson had said a grand jury could issue a stiffer charge.

Jean’s parents spoke after a news conference where Dallas County District Attorney Faith Johnson  announced the indictment.

His father, Bertrum Jean, said the family took comfort and consolation in the grand jury’s decision.

“It is such a hard thing to go through,” he said. “We miss our boy dearly.”

Allison Jean said she knew her son was a victim of murder “from the start” and thanked the community and the DA’s office for securing the new case against Guyger.

“I truly believe that she inflicted tremendous evil on my son,” she said. “I look forward to the next test, which is a conviction of murder of Amber Guyger, and more so of a penalty, a proper penalty so she can reflect on what she has done.”

Bertrum Jean said he and his wife were “elated” at the news and have faith that Botham’s “legacy will live on.” SOURCE: Dallas News
