Reggae Legend ‘Toots’ Hibbert Hospitalized

Reggae icon Frederick ‘Toots’ Hibbert has been hospitalized at a private hospital in St Andrew, Jamaica and is now awaiting COVID-19 test results.

According the Jamaican Gleaner, Toot’s manager, Cabel Stephenson appears optimistic but stated that Toots is recuperating after being admitted to the intensive care unit following complaints of breathing difficulties.

“We took him to a private facility where they administered some tests but said based on what is happening, they have to do the COVID-19 test for everything to be complete and to rule it out,” said Stephenson.

“It was our wish that he stayed at the hospital where he can be under full observation because of his age and who he is,” Stephenson continued.

Just this past Friday, Toots and the Maytals released their new album, Got To Be Tough. This is the legendary reggae band’s first full-length album in over 10 years. Co-produced by Zak Starkey, Got To Be Tough features Cyril Neville, Ringo Starr, Ziggy Marley, Sly Dunbar and Ringo Starr.

Just this past Friday, Toots and the Maytals released their new album, Got To Be Tough, however, the legendary reggae singer has been hospitalized at a private hospital in St Andrew, Jamaica and is now awaiting COVID-19 test results.

“The family would like to assure those concerned that he is making positive progress and is receiving the best possible treatment, while he awaits the results on his Covid-19 test. He is resting and in good spirits, and is showing signs of improvement by the hour,” according to a statement sent to Rolling Stone.

The statement continues: “His family has asked everyone to hold him in their prayers, and would like to thank the Minister of Culture Olivia ‘Babsy’ Grange and Minister of Health Christopher Tufton for their assistance in getting Mr. Hibbert tested, as well as the countless medical professionals who are taking care of Mr. Hibbert around the clock during this time.”
