According to John Legend, it’s been twelve years since the two collaborated on their reggae smash, “Can’t Be My Lover,” off his album, Evolver. During the Instagram Live conversation, Legend took fans down memory lane, speaking on his admiration for Buju, the backstory of “Memories” and even shared that these two musical geniuses performed this song only once, at Legend’s historic first and sold out concert at Madison Square Garden.

Memories” was written and produced by Mark “Buju Banton” Myrie, Steven “Lenky” Mardsen and Buju’s longtime producer, Donavan Germain. Check out the next reggae anthem below…

In a recent interview on Apple Music’s SHABBAAAAA SOUND RADIO, Banton shared details on the title of his next album. “Why do I choose a title Upside Down? Well, if I listen to a song with other brethrens of mine, they will say to me, this song is bad,” says Banton. “I think the song is good. Most of the things that we talk about, we ascribe a negative connotation to it. Bad becomes good. Right becomes wrong. Innocence becomes guilt. Guilt becomes innocence, true becomes else. Real becomes fake. Up becomes down. And we accept it all.”

It’s been a decade since Buju released his last full-length studio album, “The Dawn Before,” which garnered him the coveted Grammy for “Best Reggae Album” in 2010, during his imprisonment.

In addition to “Memories,” Buju’s upcoming album Upside Downwill also include previously released tracks, “Steppa” and “Trust.” The 20-track “Upside Down” is scheduled for release in 2020.
