With December 8th right around the corner, fans are eagerly awaiting the release of reggae legend, Buju Banton.

Upon completion of his 10-year sentence, the Grammy Award-winning artiste will be quickly deported back to Jamaica.

Inmate 86700-004, born Mark Anthony Myrie, had his legal status to travel and work in the United States revoked upon his felony drug conviction. But instead of fighting his immigration status, Buju has opted to be quickly processed by the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

According to The Gleaner, Buju’s lawyers made legal manoeuvres to circumvent that process and he is not fighting his immigration status. “Buju has made sure that his stay with ICE will be as short as possible. He has opted for voluntary deportation. He should be home in very short order after his sentence ends,” said his publicist, Ronnie Tomlinson.

Buju and his team are excited for his return home to re-assimilate back to society, and for him to prepare for his first performance and his highly anticipated Long Walk To Freedom Tour.
