We can add Spice to the list of dancehall artists that have bleached their skin.

It’s no secret that a lot of Jamaican artists have bleached their skin. It has been an epidemic in the Caribbean, particularly Jamaica, for years! Vybz Kartel is most famously known for skin bleaching. He changed from black to beige and seemingly made the transition cool and acceptable for everyone, when he debuted his hit song, “Cake Soap.”

In dancehall, Alkaline and Khago are just a few popular dancehall names. But as of today we can add Miss Grace Hamilton. Or can we?

Her over 1.5 million fans were growing skeptical when she became absent from social media. Some even started rumors when she deleted all of her Instagram posts, citing a brewing war between her a fellow dancehall queen Shenseaa…now we know the REAL reason.

Spice unveiled her new look during an IG Live Performance today, backed by all female band ADAHZEH and moderated by Billboard Magazine’s, Pat Meschino.

In newest first post, Spice revealed, “Nothing wrong with a fresh start. My mix tape is ready for pre order today on all platforms. Pre order yours and tag me #Captured.”

Many are speculating that fame and her latest role in reality show – “Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta” might have been the catalyst for this major change. Sigh.

Just in case you wanted a reminder of what Spice looked like before, here’s a contrasting image…

There are numerous article, videos, documentaries on the topic of skin bleaching. I came a cross a MarieClaire article where this young Jamaican woman gave this reason for her bleaching: “”Its nice when the guys call after you saying, ‘Browning!’ and you know you born black,” she says, laughing. She loved the attention; she loved fooling people into thinking she was someone a little bit different.”

Check out this documentary on the history of Skin Bleaching in Jamaica:

Is Spice trying to compete with Shenseea or eliminate competition? I thought she was beautifully bronzed before – a gorgeous black queen, but I guess Spice wasn’t comfortable in her own skin. What are your thoughts?

UPDATE 10/22 4:06pmET: Upon examining this photo, could Spice be playing us? Could this be makeup and a bodysuit? In her IG Live performance, she had on gloves with only her face exposed. Could this be a publicity stunt for her next mixtape? If this is indeed a stunt for sales or some sort of social experiment – it’s tasteless. We would be thrilled that she didn’t bleach her skin but her credibility – using such a sensitive issue to push her personal agenda – would be tasteless UNLESS she plans on doing some serious outreach to help young black women love the skin they’re in and combat the need to be light-skinned to get ahead! Anything else would just be BLACK HYPOCRISY!

UPDATE 10/22 9:03pmET: In her interview with Pat Meschino, it was evident that Spice was trolling the internet today and got what she set out to achieve – public attention. So what’s her cause? With a snippet of her new single BLACK HYPOCRISY leaked on social media, the dancehall queen went from spice to flour, to allegedly highlight colorism and self-hate within the Jamaican entertainment community.
