Spice is still reigning as the BLACK Queen of Dancehall. Today’s most powerful woman in dancehall sent the entire world into a frenzy when she debuted her “bleached” skin on Instagram, leaving many (including me) confused.

Spice and her creative PR team did something so controversial and historical in this digital age; they shut down the internet with one of the most captivating marketing schemes ever! This marketing strategy which could’ve cost Spice her integrity, did just the opposite – she gained respect for using her powerful voice to send a powerful message.

UPDATE: Dancehall Queen Spice Reveals New Bleached Skin

In a trolling moment for the history books, Spice used her social media platform to not only drive her 1.5 million fans to pay attention to her message but the Queen monetized that attention! Her “Black Hypocrisy” video which debuted 4 days ago has since garnered close to 2 million views on Youtube, while the track debuted as #1 on both the US and UK  Reggae iTunes Charts

Known globally for her raunchy and sexually explicit lyrics, Spice pivots to a more conscious reasoning in “Black Hypocrisy” as she highlights the plight many black woman face. “I am dripping melanin with honey, I am black without apology.”

As the mother of a teenage daughter, who I have raised with a strong self-esteem to love her chocolate skin, this message is timely, especially in this Instagram-driven age. Congrats to Spice and her team on an epic release. We are all talking!!!

Black Hypocrisy” is one of 19 tracks off Spice’s upcoming mixtape, Captured, to be released November 2nd. Pre-order HERE.
