Who doesn’t love a feel good story of grit and grime of an underdog making it big. That’s exactly the testimony of Cardi B.

Card B’s win is historic. On February 10th, Cardi B became she became the first solo female rapper to win Best Rap Album, for her debut platinum-selling project, “Invasion of Privacy.”

By now you’ve seen the videos and pictures circulating from the 61st Grammys, but if not, you can google them.

In the meantime, I just wanted to acknowledge Belcalis Alamanzar’s unabashed authenticity, headstrong confidence and unshakeable belief in herself and her craft. She made us all believers and won over fans from the Bronx to Australia, just by being herself.

Cardi accepted her award with her controversial husband, Offset, by her side. And though many people weren’t really feeling his presence on stage for yet another one of her shining moments, it’s clear in her body language that she wanted him there. The two are back on and allegedly attending couple’s therapy, in an effort to save their marriage.

Check out her acceptance speech below:

FYI: Lauryn Hill was the first female rapper to win a Grammy, over 20 years ago with The Fugees in 1997, but Cardi is the first woman to do on a solo project. Elliott, Izzy Azalea, Rapsody, and Nicki Minaj have been nominated in the category in past years.

Nicki Minaj has been nominated 10x at the Grammys but has never won.

We can see why there has been underlying tension between the two. As Cardi has been able to shoot into stardom “overnight” and successfully accomplish personal and professional feats that Nicki has been trying to attain: marriage, motherhood, Grammy.

It would’ve been big of Nicki if she had congratulated her…but hey…

All hail the new Queen of Rap – Cardi B!
