Are you a Caribbean writer with a compelling short story? Have you been writing and writing, and have just been sitting on your work? Then I encourage you to enter the 2020 Commonwealth Short Story Prize.

The 2020 Commonwealth Short Story Prize is open to all citizens of Commonwealth countries and is FREE to enter. There will be five winners, one from each region. One regional winner will be selected as the overall winner. The overall winner of the Commonwealth Short Story Prize will receive £5,000 and the remaining four regional winners £2,500. If the winning short story is a translation into English, the translator will receive additional prize money.

2020 Commonwealth Short Story Judging Panel: Nii Ayikwei Parkes (Chair), Mohale Mashigo (Africa), William Phuan (Asia), Heather O’Neill (Canada and Europe), Elizabeth Walcott-Hackshaw (Caribbean), and Nic Low (Pacific).

The judging panel for the prize are from each of the five Commonwealth regions – Africa, Asia, Canada and Europe, the Caribbean and the Pacific. This year’s judge representing the Caribbean is Trinidadian short story writer and academic Elizabeth Walcott-Hackshaw.

The prize accepts stories in 11 languages: Bengali, Chinese, English French, Greek, Kiswahili, Malay, Portuguese, Samoan, Tamil, and Turkish. Stories that have been translated into English from any language are also accepted.

Entries must be unpublished, can be on any theme, and the competition is open until 1 November 2019 (11.59pm in any time zone).
