She may not be one of the supermodels that often grace Vogue’s covers but she is a star in her own right! Grenadian Brit, Narguis Horsford, makes the cover of British Vogue in a special triple cover edition, featuring three UK-based female essential workers.

This UK-based train driver joins a community midwife and a supermarket worker in Vogue’s July 2020 issue.

In the article written by Olivia Marks for British Vogue, the magazine chose to celebrate essential workers who are keeping the UK going, during the coronavirus pandemic.

The July 2020 cover story celebrates the millions of people in the UK who, at the height of the pandemic, and in the face of danger, put on their uniforms and went to work. Olivia Marks meets the train driver, the midwife and the supermarket assistant who appear on the trio of covers, photographed by Jamie Hawkesworth. 

British Vogue editor-in-chief Edward Enninful shared his thoughts on these historic cover, “This chapter in history has seen a society shift its attention onto some of the people in this country who are not usually afforded the spotlight.”

“I am no hero, but I’m proud of being a train driver and the essential role we are playing during the coronavirus crisis,” said Horsford, a former student of St. Joseph’s Convent.

Horsford continued, “Our services are vitally important to keep London moving throughout these unprecedented times and maintaining safety, to ensure our key workers can get to where they need to be to provide the services that are required.”
