Chances are you’re either reading this because you’re an avid JayBlessed.com reader or because you’ve just seen me present at the Outlier Podcast Festival.
Today, I spoke about the power of living and owning your truth in your authentic storytelling.
UNLOCK JAY’S SIX STEPS TO TELLING AUTHENTIC STORIES.
When I started my podcast, IN MY HEAD with Jay Blessed, it was really for a selfish reason – to save myself… and maybe… perhaps, one person.
A year ago, I was deeply depressed, and as a creative I needed to do something to channel the powerful energy stirring within in me for something positive… something constructive. So I turned my broken heart into art. Episode One of IN MY HEAD with Jay Blessed is aptly titled, “I Live And Own My Truth.”
Throughout my podcast journey, I have been my full self, complete with flaws and no f_cks! I credit my vulnerability and authenticity in my storytelling towards helping me build my tribe.
A year later, IN MY HEAD with Jay Blessed is the #1 Caribbean Mental Health Podcast and the first Caribbean podcast to be nominated at The People’s Choice Podcast Awards.
But mostly importantly, a year later, I have been able to help, on average, one person per episode, commit to therapy and activate them into living and owning their truth. This courageous act that leads towards healing the listener, their families and their communities.

My guests have also been able to find healing on the podcast through sharing their authentic voices and powerful stories.
Today during my Outlier Podcast Festival session titled: “LIVE AND OWN YOUR TRUTH: TELLING AUTHENTIC STORIES,” I gave examples like: Alicia Ifill on Episode 14: “I Am More Than My Mistakes;” or George Thomas on Episode 43: “I Am Not Your Slave – My Life In Hospitality;” or Courtney K. Williams on Episode 27: “My Daughter Is Dead And Deserves Justice.”
My podcast journey as a truth teller hasn’t been easy but it has been quite rewarding because true stories have a universal appeal.
IN MY HEAD now reaches listeners in 79 countries and has been a change agent in the way we look at mental health – especially in the Black and Caribbean communities.
