Naomi Osaka is the first Haitian-Japanese woman to ever win the US Grand Slam title.

With just 5 years experience as a professional tennis player, Osaka beat her childhood hero Serena Williams in one of the most controversial finals, earning herself a $3.8 million prize. Since her win, Osaka has been raking in worldwide recognition and multi-million dollar endorsement deals.

Osaka signed a 3-year ambassadorship with Japanese brand – Nissan. Then leveled up with the historic Adidas deal, becoming the brand’s highest-paid female athlete, with $8.5 million dollars annually. Her endorsement deals also include Yonex, Nissin Foods, Wowow and Citizen Watch. Click for Naomi’s interview with Ellen

Fresh from celebrating her 21st birthday on October 16th (Get it fellow Libra!!!), Osaka  recently added another major accomplishment by ranking on the #4 spot with the World Tennis Association. According to Tennis.com, Osaka is the third Japanese player to rank this high. In 1995, Kimiko Date spent seven weeks at No. 4 and Kei Nishikori, spent 12 weeks at No. 4 in the ATP rankings (which includes eight weeks in 2015, two weeks in 2016 and two weeks in 2017). Neither Date nor Nishikori ever made it any higher than No. 4., but will Osaka?

Though she is known for her powerful serve and strong forehand, Osaka makes it clearly known that she is proud of her Haitian heritage. Click the video to see Naomi putting this reporter in check:

Born to a Japanese mother and a Haitian father, Osaka moved to New York at age three. She’s now based in Florida, where she waves both Japanese and Haitian flags. Keep representing Naomi!
