Jamaican School To Be Renamed In Veronica Campbell Brown’s Honor

Eight-time Olympic medallist,Veronica Campbell Brown, will have a school renamed in her honor.

Jamaica’s Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, Olivia Grange, says Cabinet has signed off on the renaming of the sprint star’s alma mater – Troy Primary School, located in Trelawny.

According to the Jamaica Observer the Minister also stated renovations are being done to the school, with plans of the school to be granted heritage site status:

The minister indicated that the restoration work, which includes the old headmaster’s cottage that will be converted to a resource centre as well as the development of a playing field, has been sanctioned and is being supported by Jamaica National Heritage Trust.

She said the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information and the Sports Development Foundation are also supporting the engagements at the school, which is over 100 years old and has been declared a heritage site.

“We have funds now to start the work… but there are additional funds to be put in the budget for the next fiscal year. We are really excited about it [and] so, come next year, we will be moving speedily to get the facility ready,” Grange added.

The official renaming formalities are scheduled for early 2019, pending Veronica Campbell Brown’s schedule.
