SHARE THIS STORY:

Reggae Sumfest 2020 drew its biggest attendance ever as the annual two-day music festival delivered a virtual and high-class production to fans around the world and we’ve got the videos!

With travel COVID–19 travel restriction in Jamaica, reggae and dancehall fans got to partake in the greatest reggae festival in the world – from the comforts and safety of their home. The shift to virtual concerts has kept fans engaged and uplifted during these COVID19 times.

Back in April 2020, Joe Bogdanovich, Chairman and CEO of DownSound Entertainment, promoters of the Reggae Sumfest festival, confirmed the cancellation on the annual event due to the novel Coronavirus.

However, DownSound Entertainment did not disappoint fans as they execute a superb virtual experience with some of reggae and dancehall’s greatest!

Digital and social media impressions are sure to be record-breaking for this Caribbean produced and Caribbean hosted event. According to Loop Jamaica, Friday’s kickoff event attracted 20,000 live viewers to the Reggae Sumfest YouTube channel, while viewership ballooned to 340,000 via Facebook; 101,000 on YouTube and 80,000 on Instagram by noon on Saturday.

The Coronavirus has shifted how we pay and attend events. This week alone, I saw DMX vs Snoop Dogg FOR FREE via VerzuzTV. Then saw Kes, Common, Agelique Kidjo, Yemi Alade and more via Celebrate Brooklyn FOR FREE! And the whole of Reggae Sumfest FOR FREE —– AT HOME!

Moving forward, (when we go back to physically gathering for concerts) if your ticket prices don’t include a virtual experience – I ain’t going!

Much love to Joey, Tara Playfair, Phase Three Productions and the whole Reggae Sumfest team! EXCELLENT PRODUCTION!
