JLP Retains Power After Jamaica 2020 Elections

On Thursday September 3rd, the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) has retained leadership after a landslide victory over the People’s National Party (PNP) in the Jamaica 2020 General Elections.

JLP Wins 2020 Jamaica Elections

This was Jamaica’s 18th general election since Universal Adult Suffrage in 1944, with various stronghold seats once held by PNP members now changing hands in favor of the JLP.

Jamaica’s Prime Minister, Hon. Andrew Holness thanked his supporters via social media. He posted the below caption on Instagram:

“Thank you Jamaica. This is a victory for a #StrongerFuture. The Jamaica Labour Party is privileged to continue the sober governance needed to commandeer the land we love through this global health and economic crisis. We are honoured to continue to serve you and we look forward to #RecoveringStronger God Bless Jamaica 🇯🇲”

With a full slate of 63 newly elected candidates, the Jamaica Progressive Party has won the election in a landslide, 60/40 split.
